Amherst Middle School is closed this morning after a basement flooded, which knocked out power, according to the school district and the sheriff’s office.
Maintenance workers responded before 6 a.m. to the school at 165 Gordon’s Fairground Road, which is between U.S. 60 and Union Hill Road just south of the Town of Amherst.
Bus drivers were notified this morning to not take students to the school, and other administrators spread the word to local media outlets, said Transportation Supervisor Randy Tschetter.
There was no immediate word on damage or when the school would reopen.
