ACHIEVEMENTS

Appomattox

-  Appomattox County High School Future Farmers of American member Tyler Franklin finished third overall among individuals participating in the Southside Area FFA Tractor Operating Career Development Event held recently in Chatham.

- The following Appomattox County High School students were members of the fourth-place Federation Forestry Judging Team: Tyler Franklin, Corey Massie, Kyle Primm (second high individual overall), and Kate Tillotson.

- Appomattox County High School student Richard Mason took third place in the State Forestry Field Day Contest.

- The Appomattox County High School Marching Band earned the following honors this season: first place color guard, Amherst Tournament of Bands; first place Overall Class A and first place General Effect and Music, Lynchburg Classic; and first place Overall Class A and first place General Effect and Music, Marching, Color Guard and Drum Line, Midlothian Showcase of Bands.

Bedford

-  The Bedford Middle School Lego Team won the first place judges award during the 2008 Va./D.C. FLL Regional Tournament held Nov. 15 at Liberty Christian Academy. Team members were Vashti Miles, Chris Dobyns, Caitlyn Dobyns, Christine Wray, Brittany, Manley, Calvert Larsen and Jake Tomlin.

Campbell

-  The following Tomahawk Elementary School fifth-grade students were recently named to the All-A Honor Roll: Daniel Burnett, Jandrito Cedillo, Landon Foutz, Alexis Hendricks, Bryan Hogg, Kendall McDowell, Miranda Quel, Da Eun Ahn, Collin Hooper, Rachel Murphy, Cameron Roberts, Tristan Floyd, Adonis Trent, Hannah Moore, Greyson Taylor, Logan Hoffman, Michael Xu, Sung Woo Cho and Callie Moran.

Lynchburg

-  The E.C. Glass High School Air Force Junior ROTC took first place in the Inspection and Color Guard categories and finished runner up in the seven-team Western Region division during the Big Orange Drill Classic hosted by Heritage High School. The E.C. Glass team also tied for first in the Inspection category and third in Color Guard in the 14-team field. Glass placed higher than the other Air Force JROTC unit (Monticello High School) and claimed the Best in Service title.

-  The following Lynchburg students were recently honored for their achievements by the Optimist Club of Lynchburg: Jordan Anderson of Dearington Elementary School for Innovation, Arts Award; Amanda Yi of Bedford Hills Elementary School, Community Service; Amanda Protzman of Sandusky Elementary School, Humanities Award; and Kaitlyn Lawhorne of Sheffield Elementary School and Hanna Somazze of LAUREL, Courage Award.

- Dec. 6: Breakfast with Santa Event, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Breakfast (8:30 to 11:30 a.m.) is $3 and pictures with Santa (9 a.m. to noon) are $5. Santa’s Workshop will also be open for shopping. All gifts are under $5. The Amherst Women’s Ensemble will perform at 10 a.m. followed by the Amherst Elementary Singers at 11:30 a.m. The event also includes Christmas crafts, face painting and caroling.
