QUESTION: I am now breast cancer-free as of last week. I would like to know about the relay.
Thank you, Karen. — Mrs. Robertson
ANSWER: Cancer is something so many of us have been touched by in one way or another. Sometimes it is easy to feel helpless, but I think participating in events that create awareness and support of the fight against cancer can be therapeutic.
Relay for Life is an event that is hosted across our area.
There are several different walks that take place, but all of them have the same goal.
Relay for Life of Roanoke will be held May 30 at Greenhill Park. When I checked the Web site, at least 450 people have already signed up.
In the years that WSLS has sponsored Relay for Life, I have found there is just something surreal about being at the event.
It is a celebration. It is a time to honor memories. It is a way to take a stand against a horrible disease that at this point has no cure.
To be a part of the event, you can call Debbie Brown at (540) 344-6225 or (540) 314-6263. I have also placed links to more information about this event and other Relay for Life events going on across our area at http://www.wsls.com. Click Lifestyles and then Health.
