QUESTION: Should I be concerned over the news about Singulair and a possible link to suicide?
ANSWER: Here’s what I have found. Singulair is one of the most popular allergy and asthma medicines out there. The Food and Drug Administration is looking at a possible link between suicide and the medicine because of a few reports they have gotten about people showing mood changes while taking the drug. Since the drug treats asthma and allergies both kids and adults take the medicine.
Tim Lucas with Downhome Pharmacy says don’t stop taking your medicine because of this latest report.
“Be more aware if your child seems to show signs of depression or is acting strangely. We may run into more problems with people not taking Singulair medication and having acute asthma attacks.”
If you notice mood changes and believe it may have to do with a medication you are taking, talk to your doctor about possible alternatives.
