Can old pancake mix be dangerous?

QUESTION: I received an e-mail saying old pancake mixes can cause an allergic reaction. Is this legit?

ANSWER: There is a Web site called http://www.snopes.com that checks out stories like this and either debunks them or confirms their validity. I expected to find that this was an
urban legend but was surprised at what I read once I got to the site, which says old pancake mixes can cause a dangerous allergic reaction in some people. The Web site says there are a few things to keep in mind: Pancake mixes are not dangerous alone; an out-of-date pancake mix would have to contain mold spores to cause the allergic reaction; To develop mold spores, the mix would have to be somehow exposed to air over time; and the person eating the mix would have to be allergic to mold to have a possible anaphylactic reaction.
