Name: Takisha Miller, Lynchburg
Challenge: Takisha — sole provider due to her husband’s work-related injury for her family, including two children ages 12 and 2 — made a three-hour commute each morning and evening on the city bus line to her job, which was only 15 miles away.
How overcame: Takisha received a loan from the The Alliance for Families and Children’s Ways to Work Program to purchase a car to drive to work, greatly reducing the stress on her family and increasing her family’s stability and self-sufficiency.
Agency: The Ways to Work Program of the Alliance for Families and Children provides small, low-interest loans for car purchase or repair in order to maintain or improve employment status. For information, call (434) 845-5944, ext. 231, or visit http://www.alliancecva.org. The alliance is an agency of the United Way.
