Editor’s note: United Way of Central Virginia supports 59 humanitarian programs delivered through its 28 partner agencies. During the coming months, The News & Advance will feature weekly vignettes of people who have been aided through the efforts of United Way partner agencies.
People in crisis can find the appropriate agency that might be able to help them by calling the United Way’s referral service, 2-1-1.

Challenge: Disabled by joint problems and unemployed, she needed an affordable, handicapped-accessible apartment and first-month’s rent money.
How overcame: Linda received financing and donated household items for her apartment and found a job at YWCA.
Agency: United Way of Central Virginia’s 2-1-1 Service referred her to The Salvation Army, Interfaith Outreach, Lynchburg Community Action Group and Target, as well as to the United Way’s Gifts in Kind program.
