Robbie Wells, Dallas Wesley and the Smith Mountain Lake Harmeneers will perform May 18 at this year’s Concert in the Dell.
The show, which will be the fourth annual at the Whiteside Dell Amphitheater at Randolph College, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
The free show is a community service of the Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church.
Rev. Dr. David Breckenridge said part of the idea was to showcase some of the talent within the church, and to create a family-friendly environment with a safe atmosphere.
The result is, “dare I say, rather heavenly for this music lover,” Breckenridge said. And it’s part of what he considers the church’s charge.
This year’s line-up includes Wells, a former state fiddle champion, who often performs with the Dog Boys and Tommy Wood. He also has been featured by the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. On occasion, his sons Jesse and Corey join him to fill out the stage as the Wells Clan String Band. While his music explores many musical styles, Robbie’s love of traditional and Irish music is apparent.
Wesley is a singer/songwriter who plays acoustic guitar. Since coming to Lynchburg four years ago, the Greenville, S.C., native has written more than 40 original songs and recorded a debut album, “No Cover.”
The Smith Mountain Lake Harmeneers carry on the a capella barbershop tradition, with the group’s more than 30 men singing four-part harmony. The Harmeneers were selected as the most improved Chorus in the Southern Division of the Mid-Atlantic District of Barbershoppers in 2006. They are directed by Jane Montgomery, who also works with Heritage High School, Peakland Methodist Church and Bedford Presbyterian Church.
Lawn chairs and food (no alcohol) are encouraged. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Randolph College Chapel, without lawn chairs or food.
