Lily Voth, Lynchburg’s and Virginia’s Junior Miss, won two $1,000 scholarships during the past weekend’s America’s Junior Miss competition in Mobile, Ala.
Voth won scholarships in two of the five competition categories: interview and self-expression. She won them during the preliminary competition leading up to the final on Saturday night, in which Lindsey Brinton of Utah took the title of America’s Junior Miss and a $50,000 scholarship.
During the preliminaries, $1,000 scholarships go to the top five contenders in each category. (In addition to interview and self-expression, the categories are scholarship, talent and fitness.)
Voth and one other contestant won in two categories, while the Utah Junior Miss was the only one to place among the top five in four categories. Junior Miss contestants vie for scholarships that total $150,000.
Voth, the daughter of Michael and Sallie Voth, graduated recently from Virginia Episcopal School and plans to head to the College of Charleston this fall.
