Brookville has the spirit
Brookville High School’s Chorus and Women’s Chorale will present “American Spirit,” a musical tribute for Veteran’s Day, on Nov. 9. The students have dedicated their show to the memory of Scott Wright, a former faculty member and lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves.
The program of patriotic music is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Fort Hill United Methodist Church. Janet Hawkins, the church’s minister of music, and 14 instrumentalists will accompany the students.
Holiday mega show slated
Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 have been set as the dates for the annual holiday mega show put on by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Bedford Woman’s Club and Bedford Junior Woman’s Club.
The show, with approximately 100 exhibitors, will take place in Bedford Elementary School.
Show examines legend
The exhibit, “Jacob Lawrence’s Legend of John Brown,” has come from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond for display at the Daura Gallery at Lynchburg College.
The show features screenprints of Lawrence’s gouache paintings that tell the story of the abolitionist’s assault on slavery, including the ill-fated attack on the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry. The exhibit is scheduled to be on display until Dec. 12.
Chili time at the lake
Smith Mountain Lake’s Fall Chili Festival is set of Nov. 1 at Bridgewater Plaza on Virginia 122 in Moneta.
The festival is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with chili tasting starting at noon, and to run until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, with children younger than 6 admitted free.
Opening reception set
A reception and exhibit opening will be held 1:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 for Bedford artist Revelle Hamilton at the Light Wings Gallery.
A former New York City fashion designer, Hamilton has lived, painted and taught art in Bedford since 1980.
The studio is at 849 Belmont St., (behind the Lynchburg Art Club).
