Greeks gather to celebrate heritage
It’s that time of year when you might find more Lynchburgers of Greek ancestry in Roanoke than at home.
That’s because it’s time for the annual Roanoke Greek Festival, set this year for Sept. 12 through 14 on the grounds of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
The festival offers ethnic costumes, dancing, live music and children’s activities, not to mention Greek pottery, jewelry, arts and crafts and, of course, Greek food. There will also be guided tours of the church, with explanations of Byzantine iconography and church design.
The festival, sponsored by WSLS 10, is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 12 and 13, and from noon to 7 p.m. on Sept. 14. For information, call (540) 362-3601 or visit roanokegreekfestival.com.
