Beach bash at the lake set for SaturdayIt’s late summer, so it’s time to sip and shag at Bedford’s 2008 Beach Bash.
The bash, featuring beach music archetypes Bill Deal’s original Rhondels, is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. at the Parkway Marina in Huddleston.
Local shag clubs will give demonstrations, and there will be a shag contest as well.
Area wineries will showcase their vintages.

Gretna Little Theatre to hold auditions for shows
The Gretna Little Theatre will hold open auditions for all ages for the remaining two productions of the 2008 season from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 2, at First Baptist Church of Gretna.
The October production, “Curse You, Jack Dalton,” will be presented Oct. 17 through 19. Reading from the script will suffice for the audition.
The holiday production, “Broadway Showcase,” will be presented Nov. 28 through 30. Applicants should prepare a Broadway song from any musical and bring sheet music for the accompanist.
Soloists, duets, trios, quartets and chorus members are needed. There is also a particular need for children in the holiday show.
Dancers should be prepared to learn a short and simple dance routine prepared by theatre choreographers. Instrumentalists are also needed.

Treble Tapestry holding auditions for fall season

LSO subscriptions for new season concerts on sale
The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra is offering season subscriptions for its three orchestral concerts for $55. The concerts will be held Sept. 6, March 21 and May 10. Subscribers are also entitled to discounts and early reservations for other shows. Subscriptions can be obtained by calling the LSO office at (434) 845-6604.

Vines Restaurant donates portion of sales to VSA
Vines Restaurant will support the Virginia School of the Arts by donating 15 percent of dinner and beverage sales from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday in September. Mention VSA at the restaurant to participate.
