Imagine Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling” as a musical comedy, and you’ve got the Academy of Fine Arts’ latest Encore! production.
The play, “Honk! Jr.,” will be put on by more than 30 rising stars from area middle and high schools. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 tonight and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Academy’s Warehouse Theatre at Commerce and Fifth streets. Tickets are $8 for children and $11 for adults.
Anthony Drewe wrote the lyrics and George Stiles composed the music for the adaptation of the fabled fairy tale.
To bring it to the Lynchburg stage, Encore! participants from the seventh through the 12th grades have been studying acting, dance, costuming and other aspects of theatrical production for four weeks.
Afternoons have been spent rehearsing under the direction of Jeff Whitman, a faculty member at Lynchburg College.
For tickets, call (434) 846-TIXX or visit http://www.academyfinearts.com.
