The Macedonia Church has its annual homecoming service scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, and everyone’s invited.
The celebration will continue after the service at a picnic, with music provided by the Homecoming String Band, on the lawn of the church at 1408 Coffeytown Road in Vesuvius – near the borders of Amherst, Nelson and Rockbridge counties.
The church, which dates to 1896, was originally made from logs. It features locally cut and crafted chestnut benches and paneling.
Its mountain location in proximity to waterfalls just below the church, plus the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway, has made the church a landmark for mountain sojourners.
