My jaw is still on the floor.
It was God who had Dean pulled from Hell?!?
Dean, Sam and Bobby spent most of Thursday night’s fourth season premiere trying to discover how and why he got out, assuming it was some sinister force at work.
But then some guy named Castiel showed up, revealed that he was an angel and said God commanded Dean be brought back.
“We have work for you,” Castiel told the baffled Winchester.
Whoa baby. What a great twist, especially considering Dean’s well-documented lack of faith.
It looks like this season will be all about an epic battle between good and evil, and it really makes sense that God would want the Winchester brothers on His side. Wouldn’t you?
But I don’t know how the big guy would feel about Sam taking up with a demon. That’s right, folks. Ruby is back, now sporting a shiny new body (I don’t know about you, but I miss Katie Cassidy in the role).
Sam has also been using his abilities while Dean was gone and is actually quite powerful, which we saw firsthand when he killed that demon with some brain power and a flick of his wrist.
And he’s lying to Dean about all of it! This does not bode well for our brothers.
Other random thoughts I had while watching:
—How great was that recap, set to AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long?” Dean would so approve.
—Those shots of Dean buried alive were cringe-worthy. But once he did get out, I couldn’t help thinking that a just-risen-from-the-dead dude never looked so good.
—Loved how Dean stopped, with an appreciative smile, on the smutty magazine aisle at the gas station. Glad to know Hell didn’t change our boy too much.
Another great Dean reaction shot came when Sam’s gal pal (who we now know was Ruby) asked if the brothers were a couple. Jensen Ackles really is one of the most talented actors on TV these days. He can say it all with just one look.
—Sam and Dean’s reunion was perfect: touching and truly showed what a tight bond they share. But I have a bad feeling that brotherly bond will be tested this season, what with all these secrets floating around.
—Eww to the burned out eyes of psychic Pamela and those diner demons. Doesn’t it seem kinda strange that seeing an angel could do that to people?
You can say that again, Dean edition
“I know. I should look like a ‘Thriller’ video reject.” – Talking to Bobby about his rise from the dead
“Hey sweetheart, ya miss me?” – To his beloved Impala
“You were supposed to take care of her, not douche her up.” – To Sam about the car’s new iPod jack
“I’m not lying. But I’d like to find out. So if you wouldn’t mind enlightening me, Flo?” – To the demon waitress
“It’s high noon, baby.”
“Wishful thinking, but maybe it’s just the wind.” – To Bobby, just before Castiel’s loud arrival
“And what visage are you now, huh? Holy tax accountant?” – To angel Castiel
